A new white paper explains potential business process key performance indicators for hospitals in different categories, including outpatient flow and surgical services.

The white paper, “The Skinny on Healthcare KPIs,” from AchieveIt, a provider of software to help boost business performance, also defines several strategic planning terms. “Key business processes” are defined as critical management and operational processes. “Key performance indicators” are defined as metrics used to measure key business processes and reflect strategic performance.

Here are seven typical hospital revenue cycle KPIs, according to the white paper:

  2. AR days due to coding;
  3. Total AR days outstanding;
  4. Total AP days outstanding;
  5. Cash receipt to bad debt;
  6. Claims denial rate; and
  7. Days of cash on hand.
