SC Rejects SC Appeal to Trademark SC

The first Monday in October brought a flurry of decisions by the Supreme Court, most of which were refusals to consider appeals. In addition, Monday marked the first day of the Supreme Court's new term, with Justice Elena Kagan on the bench.

Among the cases rejected today by the justices was an appeal from the University of South Carolina, which wanted to trademark a baseball cap logo with the initials "SC," unfortunately a version of which the University of Southern California already had trademarked (University of South Carolina v. University of Southern California, 09-1270).

So much for my proposed line of Supreme Court headwear.
