New legislation would have universities share royalties from new technology licenses with the federal government

Overshadowed by Stanford v. Roche, Rep. Chakah Fattah (D-PA) introduced HR 2015, the American Discoveries and American Jobs Commission Act of 2011, which would create a panel tasked with the following:

  1. Study the possibility for the federal government to collect royalties from tech transfer’s commercialization of new technologies
  2. Study the potential benefits of reinvesting those revenues into math education and further research
Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News reports there is little likelihood of the bill’s collecting any momentum.
